Understanding Snoring And Snoring Solutions

July 10th, 2011
Kelly Rhodes asked:

There is little need to talk about how annoying a snoring problem can be for you and everyone in your household. Many people do not know they snore until they get married. At that point, snoring can suddenly become a major issue. If you have a snoring problem, you should see a doctor to make sure it is not a symptom of a more serious health problem. Snoring is usually the vibration of tissue partially blocking the openings in your airways.

All snoring is not alike. Some people have a soft snore that only appears for short periods of time. Other people have monstrous sounding snores that neighbors a couple houses down can hear on a quiet night. If you’re in this latter group, you and your family are probably pretty desperate for some snoring solutions.

As mentioned earlier, snoring is caused by vibrating tissue in airways. This tissue blocking the airways is often fatty tissues in the throat area. An entire portion of your throat may collapse if your muscles in the area are not properly formed. Sometimes just laying a certain way can cause this fatty tissue to partially impeded the throat. In other cases, the snoring may result from the muscles of the area just getting over-relaxed, such as alcohol, muscle relaxant, or antihistamine induced snoring.

Just as laying a certain way can invoke snoring for those with weak muscle formations around the throat, laying a different way will resolve this problem for these people. For example, laying on your back may cause your chest to press downward, further shoving tissue into your airway. So sleeping on your side or with your head raised up, but without your neck bent, would resolve any such problem with tissue being shoved down into the airway.

Excessive fat is the most common cause of snoring. So in many cases, just getting healthy and fit will get rid of the snoring problem. It may even solve the problem for people who have not been able to lay on their backs for fear of snoring.

Smoking is a contributor to snoring in many cases. Simply quitting could solve the snoring problem for many people. Smoking causes snoring by inflaming the respiratory system, as well as by causing mucus buildups in the system.

If none of these things can solve your problem, your doctor can talk to you about surgical procedures designed to stop snoring. These procedures generally involve hardening or eliminating the fatty tissues that block the air passages. They can be very effective procedures, but surgery is not typically a good first resort. However, if you must have one of these procedures, many of them can be done quickly in an outpatient clinic under local anesthesia.

Natural Cures For Anxiety – A Non-Pharmaceutical Approach

July 10th, 2011
Meg Giles asked:

We are going to take a few minutes to talk about two natural cures for anxiety. These two natural cures for anxiety will not include prescription medications, mainly because they are highly addictive and can have side effects such as drowsiness and impairment. We will focus on things that have very few side effects and are considered safe for your body.

The first group of natural cures for anxiety I wanted to look at is the herbal supplements. There are many herbal supplements out there that have been shown to be effective in helping to cure anxiety.

Passion Flower is an herbal remedy that has been used as a natural cures for anxiety for centuries. A recent study of a small group people with anxiety disorder found passionflower to be as effective as popular prescription medications.

Kava is one of the main natural cures for anxiety. It has a very calming effect and has also been used as a muscle relaxant and sedative. It is specific for anxiety, tension, stress, irritability and insomnia.

St. John’s Wort has worked for many years as one of the natural cures for anxiety. It seems to have a calming effect on the nervous system and has also been used as an anti-depressant. It works by increasing the level of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system such as serotonin and dopamine.

Even though all of the above mentioned herbals are technically not medications, you should always consult with your doctor before starting any new supplement.

The other that we should touch on widely considered to be great for anxiety is aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is proven through scientific studies and widespread use to be effective in helping with anxiety. There are many products to choose from when trying aromatherapy.

As far as natural cures for anxiety and aromatherapy are concerned, the following products should be considered, Bergamot, Cypress, Jasmine, Lavender, Lime, Rose, and Sandalwood.

There are many paths you can travel when exploring natural anxiety remedies, I urge you to just start trying different ones, this is the only way to find out which will work for you best. Avoiding powerful sedative type medication will not only keep your body healthier but also give you a happier and fuller life. Good luck.

Discover Fibromyalgia Trigger Points

July 10th, 2011
Mike Leuthen asked:

The term fibromyalgia trigger points may be used to describe areas or spots on a patients body where intense pain is felt.

The term is also used to describe points where pressure triggers pain in other parts of the body. “Tender points” is also a phrase sometimes used to mean fibromyalgia trigger points; there are 18 different points on the body which are unusually sensitive to slight pressure in fibromyalgia patients.

No one knows what causes fibromyalgia syndrome and there is disagreement in the medical community about treating it.

Some experts believe that research shows that a proper fibromyalgia diet, nutrition and exercise play important roles, as well as herbs, botanicals and prescription medications. But, disagreement among practitioners about which of these treatments is best and what causes the condition still abounds.

It can get even more confusing because there is also disagreement about whether a fibromyalgia diet, nutrition supplements or regular exercise programs are effective at all.

Unfortunately, this type of clashing of opinions often exists among those who treat patients with chronic pain and other non-life threatening conditions that are difficult to treat.

Some doctors are also critical of other physicians who focus on the importance of fibromyalgia trigger points.

Indeed, some doctors have trouble locating fibromyalgia trigger points at all, even though they are reportedly easy to identify by those who suffer from the condition and people who are close to the them.

One theory is that the muscle tissue surrounding fibromyalgia trigger points have too much oxidation and too little oxygen. This is why anti-oxidants are usually added to a fibromyalgia diet.

Despite differing opinions, we at restore-your-health.com personally believe nutritional supplements are often necessary, because of a lack of nutritive value in many of the foods we eat nowdays.

Anti-oxidants are naturally occurring components that may reverse and/or prevent the effects of oxidation. Oxidation is a part of aging, happens over time and is due to the effect that oxygen has on the body. A number of powerful anti-oxidants called xanthones have been identified in a fruit called the mangosteen.

The mangosteen and its xanthones are the subjects of numerous scientific studies (over 1,000 of them, in fact, which you can see for yourself at the prestigious PubMed).

A product containing mangosteen rind and fruit may be a helpful addition to a complete fibromyalgia diet.

Nutritional supplements containing mangosteen are sold under several brand names in the form of a juice or puree, Xango(TM) being one example.

In fact, Dr. J Templeman, M.D., a prominent physician, believes mangosteen “…appears to be the most effective treatment for a disease [fibromyalgia] that afflicts millions.” In Dr. Templeman’s experience, over 60% of sufferers can achieve “partial or complete” relief of their symptoms.

The mangosteen fruit itself is not available in the United States due to a governmental importation ban, so the only way to get it is through juice form.

In order to get more oxygen to the fibromyalgia trigger points, most experts agree that this is best accomplished with moderate exercise programs. Exercising in water is often recommended as it is easy on the joints.

Yoga has also been studied as a helpful addition to a complete fibromyalgia diet, nutrition and exercise program. Regular exercise can also increase energy levels, which is helpful since fatigue is one of the most troubling symptoms of fibromyalgia. Dietary supplements, such as mangosteen and/or B-complex may also be helpful additions to counteract fatigue.

Manipulation of fibromyalgia trigger points using acupuncture or massage therapy is sometimes suggested.

As is injecting a glucose solution directly into the fibromyalgia trigger points. The glucose injections have no side effects and are said to promote healing of the fibromyalgia trigger points. But, these injections are not considered to be a “cure” for fibromyalgia.

Trigger points will recur if the patient does not follow a complete treatment program that may include a fibromyalgia diet, nutrition supplements, and a specially designed regular exercise program.
